The Basic Court in Ferizaj has approved the request of the Basic Prosecutor's Office of Ferizaj, for the appointment of the detention measure against the defendant Gëzim Çelaj, requested by the Authorities of the Republic of Albania, on the basis of the international arrest warrant due to the suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of drug trafficking and the production and possession of weapons and ammunition without a permit.
After holding the hearing and analyzing the documents of the case, the pre-trial judge of the Department for Serious Crimes has assessed that there is a well-founded suspicion that an international arrest warrant has been issued against the same person by Interpol, at the request of August 8, 2014 and March 1, 2022 of the State of Albania due to the criminal offenses of narcotics trafficking and illegal possession of military weapons and ammunition of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Albania (CPRSH) and Italy, because the same has been sentenced to a prison term of nineteen (19) years, nine (9) months and twenty-nine (29) days, for the criminal offenses of drug trafficking.
The pre-trial judge has approved the state prosecutor's request for the imposition of a measure of detention against the defendant as based in accordance with Article 22 paragraph 1 of the Law on International Legal Cooperation in Criminal Matters and the same measure of detention has been assigned to him of four ten (40) days. In this case, the parties are informed that the appeal against this ruling did not postpone its execution. Gëzim Çelaj, wanted in Albania and Italy, was arrested a day ago by the Kosovo police.
Another operation with partners is finalized, for the capture of citizens announced as wanted internationally. The international police operation coded "Sad End", was developed as a result of cooperation between the Albanian Police, the Kosovo Police and the law enforcement agencies of strategic partner countries.
Caught in Kosovo and imprisoned, a citizen wanted for years by Albanian and Italian justice. The structures of the State Police, after providing information from police intelligence, that in Ferizaj, Kosovo, a citizen wanted for years by Albanian and Italian justice was hiding, immediately exchanged the information with the Kosovo Police and law enforcement agencies of strategic partner countries .
The Kosovo Police, based on the information received from the Albanian Police, organized and finalized the coded police operation "Sad End", during which, in Ferizaj, a citizen was captured and imprisoned: Gëzim Çelaj (Çela), 55 years old , born and resident in Kruja. This citizen was declared wanted, after the Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, Tirana, assigned the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Trafficking of narcotics", carried out in collaboration, within the framework of to the structured criminal group and "Commitment of criminal offenses by the criminal organization and the structured criminal group".
In addition, this citizen was declared an international wanted by Interpol Tirana, after the former Court of Serious Crimes has sentenced him to 10 years and 8 months of imprisonment, for the criminal offenses "Trafficking in narcotics" and "Producing and possessing weapons without permission and military ammunition", after: - On 12.06.2014, in the early hours of the morning, a RH citizen was caught in the act, with the narcotic substance cocaine, which was sent from Kosovo to Albania, on account of the citizen Gëzim Çelaj. In the apartments of the latter, in Kurbin and in Tirana, checks were carried out and 207 kg of cannabis sativa, 22 kg of heroin, 500 grams of cocaine and 14 firearms of various types were found and seized.
The 55-year-old was also wanted internationally by Interpol Rome, Italy, since in 2012, the Italian judicial authorities sentenced him to 19 years, 9 months and 29 days of imprisonment, for committing the criminal offenses of "Organizer of illegal migration" and " Criminal organization for the exploitation of prostitution", provided by the Italian Criminal Code.
