The PISA international education study that assesses the level of students in reading, mathematics and science has released the results of the 2022 test, where Albania has shown a drastic decline. The reason, it is stated, was not only the pandemic but also the earthquake of 2019. A significant drop in the level of students is also registered in Kosovo and North Macedonia.

Expert Sanije Korini, invited to Vila24 with moderator Anila Çela, further analyzes the problem. She stated that there was simply a laziness of students to go to the end of the test, denying that this could be the real level of evaluation of education in Albania. Korini emphasizes that one of the biggest problems is the lack of production of qualified teachers.

"We have deficiencies in education, but not at such a level that we represent the bottom of the ranking. I want to emphasize that we have one of the best and most suitable curricula. But we have a vacuum of teachers, schools are producing teachers with a low quality level. Old teachers are retiring. This vacuum is creating a vacuum in the education system. Teaching is no longer one of the branches chosen as a profession by young people," Korini told News24.
