President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris appeared this Wednesday at a press conference from the White House. The release comes after the tragic event that happened on Tuesday in Texas, where 19 children of an elementary school and 2 teachers were killed by an 18-year-old. The American president said that in the following days he would visit the families of the victims. While Vice President Harris called for the US to adopt more reasonable laws regarding weapons. Biden also signed an executive order on police reform that had been planned before the Uvalde massacre.

"Texas gun laws are just plain wrong"

"Since I spoke last night, the number of confirmed deaths has increased tragically." The American president began his speech with these words. He said that together with his wife, Jill Biden, they will travel to Uvalde in the following days to meet the families affected by this massacre.

Biden urged that all Americans should stand together to be close to the Uvalde community. The US president stressed that the idea that a teenager is able to legally purchase weapons that are "designed and marketed to kill is simply wrong".

"It's time for action"

The people of Uvalde need the support of every American, Biden said, declaring: "As a nation I think we should all be there for them, every one of us. And in the name of God, we must ask when we are going to do what needs to be done, if not stop altogether, radically reduce the number of massacres going on in this country. To put it more clearly: I can't take it anymore and I feel tired of what is happening and what continues to happen. It's time to act".

The president appreciates the 'heroes' of Uvalde. Signed the executive order

Biden signed an executive order Wednesday that provides for new rules on the use of force for police. It comes on the second anniversary of George Floyd's death. He took the opportunity to comment on the Uvalde school massacre and appeal for gun control, a longtime American priority.

"The vast majority of law enforcement agencies risk their lives every day to do the right thing. The families of these officers await their call every time they put on their uniform."

"Just yesterday in Uvalde, brave local officers and Border Patrol agents stepped in to save as many children as they could."

According to officials, a Border Patrol agent who was stationed near Robb Elementary entered the school and shot the gunman. Other officers reportedly broke windows to help children escape from the school./tvklan.al
