Francesco Giorgi confirms involvement in an organization controlled by Qatar and Morocco
The partner of the former vice-president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili, Francesco Giorgi, has confessed to the investigators about the corruption scandal that shook the EU institution.
According to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, Giorgi has revealed that he was part of an organization controlled by Morocco and Qatar to interfere and influence European affairs. After apologizing, Giorgi has confirmed that the former Italian MP, Antonio Panzeri, was the "brain" of this organization.
As the Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports, he then asked the judges to release the Greek MEP Eva Kaili.
"I did it all for money I didn't need", were the words quoted by this newspaper confirming in this way his involvement in Qatar-Gate. He also confessed about his role in this organization where he explains that his job was to manage the money.
He also gave two other names that have received money from the head of this organization, such as the Italian MEP, Andrea Cozzolino, and the Belgian MEP, Mark Tarabella, whose house was searched last Saturday in the presence of the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, as well as required by Belgian law.
It is worth noting that former Italian MP Panzeri helped the 35-year-old climb his political career and he felt a moral obligation to help him.
Greek media say that Francesco did not really need the money as his salary as a parliamentary assistant was around 2500 Euros per month.
