The situation is more complicated in the pharmaceutical sector as some drugs are imported from other countries
While Western sanctions have seriously affected Russians in terms of daily necessities and medicine, the government is increasing support for domestic producers and looking for alternatives from both domestic and friendly products.
As the crisis in Ukraine escalates, daily necessities such as sugar, sanitary supplies and antidepressants have become scarce in Moscow over the past month. Experts suggest that reasonable consumption is also currently applied, calling on residents to buy according to current needs.
"We have to face these difficulties. Products will be selected through market and competition. Only what people need and can afford will be used for consumption. It is very important to maintain a balance between the supply of local products and the purchasing power of the people."
The situation is even more complicated in the pharmaceutical sector, where only half of priority drugs are produced in Russia, while the rest are imported from other countries. Some patients are affected as they are unable to buy medicine due to sanctions.
"We do not plan to close the stores, but to expand them. We think that in the future, people will favor those high quality goods. We all like to indulge ourselves when we can. So they will choose what suits them best. This means that someone will choose one garment that fits them better than buying three."
Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin has called for the implementation of a replacement program for imported drugs and medical products that are in high demand, so that people can get the necessary drugs. The government also plans to support Russian manufacturers through preferential loans, government subsidies and exemption from inspections.
