German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that Berlin will send arms to Ukraine as long as necessary, reaffirming its commitment to stand by Lithuania and other eastern allies.
In a speech to Germany's industry association, he said his trip to Kiev last week to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made it clear to him that Ukraine belongs in Europe.
"The West does not accept the violent attack on Ukraine, which is why Ukraine was being widely supplied with weapons and unprecedentedly harsh sanctions were imposed on Russia. These sanctions work.
Yes, these sanctions are also harming us. They hurt our companies, but they are fair. One thing is clear: We will continue to support Ukraine, even with weapons, as long as Ukraine needs our support," he said.
