Russia has completed testing its Zircon hypersonic missile, a senior military official told Russian news agency TASS.
It comes after Russia's defense ministry said last week it had successfully test-fired the missile from a ship in the Barents Sea at a target about 1000km away in the White Sea.
Despite heavy losses in the battle with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has continued to defend the Zircon missile, part of a new generation of weapons systems that he boasts can travel at nine times the speed of sound.
Speaking on Wednesday, Alexander Moiseyev, commander of the Northern Fleet, said the missile would be deployed full-time aboard the Russian frigate Admiral Golovko before the end of the year./tvklan.al
